FoMa Maxima Mk II retains the proven mechanical foundation and unmistakable profile of the original while completely renewing the electronics, power architecture, wireless control, connectivity, and operator interface for modern productions.
Originally introduced at IBC in 2014 as the first FoMaSystems product, Maxima redefined what a handheld stabilized camera platform could carry. Its distinctive ring architecture, high-torque motor system, and payload capacity of up to 30 kg / 66 lb created a class of gimbal designed around professional cinema and broadcast camera packages rather than forcing those packages to fit the limitations of a lightweight gimbal.
More than a decade later, original Maxima systems are still working on professional productions around the world — and customers continue to ask us if they can buy Maxima again. But bringing Maxima back meant more than simply putting the original system back into production. We wanted to preserve what made Maxima exceptional while bringing the advancements we’ve developed since into the platform.
The result is FoMa Maxima Mk II: the proven Maxima mechanical architecture, now integrated with FoMa’s latest hardware, software, power, and control technology.

The MAXIMA Story — 2013 to Today
Maxima began with a surprisingly personal problem. In 2013, Roman Foltyn wanted to film his 80 kg dog, but the footage was simply too shaky. Being an engineer, simply accepting the result was not an option. He began examining and modifying the stabilization technology available at the time, looking closely at limitations in payload capacity, mechanical design, stabilization performance, and the ability to maintain performance as camera configurations changed.
In December 2013, Foltyn developed a mathematical model around his rotating-axis concept. By January 2014, the first Maxima had been built. The system was presented at IBC 2014 and became the first product from FoMaSystems. What began as a personal engineering challenge had developed into a professional three-axis stabilization platform built for camera packages that exceeded the assumptions of the emerging lightweight gimbal market.
More than ten years later, original Maxima systems remain in professional use. Their continued operation is a testament to the mechanical platform, high-payload design, and stabilization performance that defined Maxima from the beginning. That longevity is also the reason FoMa Maxima Mk II exists. FoMaSystems did not need to replace the fundamental architecture simply for the sake of making something new. Instead, the proven mechanical foundation has been retained while the electronics, power system, wireless communication, workflow, and operator-control ecosystem have been brought forward. In 2014, FoMa built a handheld gimbal with capabilities that remain extreme by today’s standards. FoMa Maxima Mk II is that platform given a modern electronic foundation and software workflow. Available in Q1 2027.
