Compared with conventional helicopter filming, the microlight offers significantly lower operating costs, a smaller environmental footprint, considerably lower noise levels and flight times of up to four hours.

Its advantage goes beyond efficiency. A broad flight envelope and multiple wing configurations allow the aircraft to adapt to the sequence—from controlled low-speed, low-altitude flight to faster dynamic tracking. The combination of FoMa Antares and the Air Création microlight brings together professional camera stabilization and an aircraft selected and developed around the requirements of filmmaking. FoMa Antares provides stabilized movement for professional cinema and broadcast camera packages, with approximately 6 kg of available camera payload in the aircraft’s current configuration. The aircraft provides the other half of the equation: endurance, low-speed handling, a broad flight envelope and the ability to adapt its flight characteristics around the sequence. Together, they create an aerial camera platform capable of everything from controlled low or high altitude perspectives to dynamic tracking shots.

Aerial Freedom, Shaped Around the Shot

SkyperCam isn’t limited to a single characteristic of aerial movement. At the foundation of the aircraft is Air Création’s proprietary wing and flight-control design, developed to give the pilot exceptional control over the aircraft’s flight characteristics. Different Air Création wing configurations allow the aircraft to be selected around the sequence. A configuration optimized for controlled, slower flight can serve a very different shot than one selected for greater speed and dynamic tracking. In flight, the pilot can further adjust the wing geometry, influencing the aircraft’s attitude and behavior as the needs of the sequence change. For filmmakers, that means greater freedom to move between intimate low-altitude perspectives, landscapes, tracking sequences and faster-moving subjects with the same aerial platform. For pilots, it means a broad and adaptable flight envelope that can be considered as part of planning—and executing—the shot.

Access Beyond the Airport

Low-speed handling also contributes to one of SkyperCam’s most practical production advantages: short-field operation. The aircraft can take off and land using relatively short operating areas, providing access to microlight airfields and suitable locations that would not support conventional aviation infrastructure. This can place the aerial unit closer to the production, reducing repositioning and allowing the aircraft to operate from locations selected around the day’s work. SkyperCam can be prepared with conventional landing gear for land-based operations or floats for takeoff and landing on water. The configuration can be selected around the production day, extending the platform into remote environments, coastlines and waterways, wildlife and natural-history filmmaking, sailing, open-water sports and adventure production.

Quiet by Nature

Lower noise is more than an environmental benefit. It’s a production tool. Compared with a helicopter, the microlight’s reduced acoustic footprint can mean less disturbance to wildlife, locations, events, performers and the surrounding environment. For documentary and natural-history work, that can help the aircraft coexist more naturally with the subject being filmed. For live events, sports, commercials and narrative production, it reduces the impact the aerial unit has on everything happening below. SkyperCam began with filmmaker and pilot Jason Barrault and his search for a different approach to professional aerial cinematography. After experiencing the cost and complexity of helicopter filming, Jason began exploring whether a microlight could deliver professional aerial images while providing greater efficiency, lower noise and more operational flexibility. Through NoGravity Films, years of real-world aerial filming, testing and refinement followed. That development brought together Air Création, with decades of experience designing and manufacturing microlight aircraft in France, and FoMa Systems, whose Antares stabilized remote head provided the combination of stabilization performance, professional camera capability and low system weight required for the application. The result is a platform developed through the combined perspectives of pilots, filmmakers and camera-system engineers.

Can any pilot operate SkyperCam?

No. The aircraft requires appropriately trained and qualified pilots, with aircraft training provided through Air Création in France. Additional requirements may vary depending on the country and type of operation.

Which cameras can be used?

SkyperCam supports professional cinema and broadcast camera configurations within the available FoMa Antares payload. The current aircraft configuration provides approximately 6 kg of available camera payload within FoMa Antares.

How long can SkyperCam remain airborne?

Flight times of up to four hours are possible depending on aircraft configuration, payload, conditions and mission requirements.

Can SkyperCam operate from water?

Yes. The aircraft can be configured with floats for water-based takeoff and landing or conventional landing gear for land-based operation.
