Our Co-Managing Director and Chief Engineer, Dr.-Ing. Roman Foltyn, was honored alongside Curt O. Schaller with an Engineering, Science & Technology Emmy® Award from the Television Academy for their work on ARRI TRINITY 2.

The award recognizes an innovation that has helped reshape what is possible with a body-mounted camera stabilization system — giving camera operators a freedom to move through a scene while maintaining precise control of their frame.

Expanding the Language of Camera Movement

TRINITY introduced a fundamentally different approach to stabilized camera movement by bringing electronic stabilization together with the freedom and responsiveness of a body-mounted system.

For camera operators, that combination opened possibilities beyond simply keeping the image stable. The camera could move from low mode to high within a continuous shot, transition dynamically around performers and environments, and execute complex movements without requiring the production to stop and reconfigure the camera.

Over the years, these capabilities have become part of the visual language of television productions, live broadcasts, entertainment programs, and televised events around the world.

TRINITY has allowed operators to create a distinctive sense of fluidity — moving naturally through spaces, between subjects, and across changing camera heights while maintaining the immediacy of a body-mounted camera. At the same time, its ability to accomplish multiple types of movement within a single system can help productions work more efficiently, reducing the need to change platforms or rebuild a setup simply because the next shot demands a different perspective.

That combination of creative freedom and practical efficiency remains one of the qualities that distinguishes the TRINITY today, even as stabilized camera technology continues to evolve.

Engineering in Service of the Operator

For us, the significance of this recognition goes beyond the technology itself.

The development of TRINITY has always been closely connected to the camera operators who use these systems in real production environments. Their work has demonstrated what becomes possible when engineering gives an operator greater freedom rather than prescribing how the camera should move.

From television series and live entertainment to some of the world’s largest televised events, operators have continued to explore and expand the possibilities of the TRINITY system — creating shots and transitions that have become increasingly familiar to audiences while continuing to push the technology in new directions.

Receiving an Engineering, Science & Technology Emmy Award is an extraordinary recognition of that engineering achievement and of the impact it has had on television production.

For FoMaSystems, it also reinforces the principle that continues to guide our engineering today: developing tools around the creative and practical needs of the people behind the camera.
