Our Co-Managing Director and Chief Engineer, Dr.-Ing. Roman Foltyn, was honored alongside Curt O. Schaller with the prestigious Scientific and Engineering Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.®

At the Scientific and Technical Awards ceremony held at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, the Academy recognized a total of 14 technological achievements, represented by 37 individual award recipients. The honored innovations have made a significant and proven contribution to the process of making motion pictures — from fire stunt safety and advanced camera stabilization to innovations in post-production and captioning.

“In keeping with the Academy’s mission to celebrate the art and innovation of filmmaking, we are thrilled to honor the outstanding achievements of this year’s Scientific and Technical Awards recipients,” said Academy President Janet Yang.

Expanding Cinema’s Visual Potential

Each year, an international committee of industry experts evaluates the innovation and impact of emerging technologies in film. This year’s awarded technologies have pushed the visual boundaries of cinema. We at FoMaSystems are proud that our Co-Managing Director Dr.-Ing. Roman Foltyn received the Scientific and Engineering Award for his work on TRINITY 2 — a high-end, body-mounted stabilized camera head that sets new standards in dynamic camera movement. The system combines mechanical inertial stabilization (ARRI Artemis) with our own electronic stabilization technology, unlocking new creative possibilities for complex camera movements that were previously difficult to achieve.

Our Next Innovation Is Coming Soon

“Innovation always starts with a deep understanding of filmmakers’ creative needs,” says Dr.-Ing. Roman Foltyn. “This award is a great honor — and a meaningful recognition of our entire team’s work.” We’re especially grateful for the tremendous encouragement and inspiration we’ve received from camera professionals around the world. That feedback has motivated and inspired us — and our next major innovation will be launched in June 2025.
