The FoMaSystems Story:
Engineering New Horizons in Stabilization

2014

Frustrated by the limitations and mechanical flaws of mass-market gimbals, Dr.-Ing. Roman Foltyn set out to create something better. His breakthrough came with the prototype “Maxima,” a camera stabilizer delivering performance previously found only in ultra-premium systems. Recognizing a gap in the market for high-end, accessible stabilization technology, Foltyn partnered with photo-retail executive Rainer Maertin. Together, they introduced Maxima at Zeiss’s booth during IBC, where strong industry interest confirmed a clear demand.

In July 2014, they founded FoMaSystems GmbH.

2015

FoMa began a collaboration with ARRI, that led to the creation of the groundbreaking Trinity system, unveiled at IBC 2015. Trinity became the first hybrid stabilizer to combine classic mechanical stabilization with active electronic control powered by 32-bit ARM-based gimbal technology. With five axes of smooth, precise movement, Trinity opened up new creative possibilities in camera operation—enabling uniquely fluid shots and extended movement. The system played a key role in productions like “1917”, which won three Academy Awards® and was widely celebrated for its immersive, continuous-shot cinematography.

2022

In 2022, FoMaSystems introduced Trinity 2, pushing innovation even further. As the first hybrid stabilizer to feature a 360-degree continuously rotating roll axis, Trinity 2 unlocked an entirely new visual language. It allows operators to execute complex, dynamic camera moves — especially in environments where traditional tools like dollies or cranes fall short. Whether navigating narrow spaces, staircases, or dense crowds, Trinity 2 delivers smooth, responsive performance and supports seamless long takes, or “one shots,” with unmatched stability and control.

2025

Trinity 2 earned FoMaSystems its first Scientific and Technical Award® from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences®, recognizing the team’s enduring commitment to innovation in support of the world’s most creative filmmakers.

The release of the FoMa Antares marks the beginning of a new era in FoMaSystems stabilization — a bold step into the next generation. It not only defines our latest innovation but also signals a clear departure from the 360 EVO, offering a glimpse into the future of advanced stabilization technology.
